Moving to the UK and have numerous questions, then look no further? Our blogs aim to provide insight on areas you may not have considered prior to the move.
Many of the below points are an insight into day to day living in the UK with some serious and not so serious advice, with the initial focus being on living and working in the UK.
A blog due late May will also looking into housing, education and culture all of which are to be considered when relocating to the UK also.
- You will find that living in the UK, the majority of facilities are walkable. If not, then
public transport will not be far away and is regular and relatively inexpensive. - The BBC is expensive! If watching TV in the UK you require a TV licence which is to
be paid annually.
- The NHS? Available to most so long as you are visiting the UK for an extended
period.
Dentists are available on the NHS too, so long as you’re willing to wait. This could
be weeks if not months depending on where you are relocating in the UK. This is what the exorbitant IHS fees cover as part of your visa so in effect you are paying in advance 🙁 - Banking in the UK. A stumbling block for many when arriving into the UK. If you
can set up a bank account with a global bank (HSBC / Barclays) in your home
country this should make the banking process easier on arrival in the UK. If not
then digital banks such as Wise are often easier. - We love Bank Holidays. Over the course of a year, we have 8 Bank Holiday days
where the majority of people do not work. - You pay National Insurance on top of Income Tax (which is pretty much a tax). This
payment from your salary is used to pay for the NHS, state pensions and sickness
and disability allowances. - Income tax is paid straight from your salary if employed. Tax brackets are 20% if
earning between £12,570 & £50,270 which rise to 40% if earning over £50,270 to
£150,000. If you are earning over £125,140 then the tax you will be paying is 45% - Careers? Not all your skill sets are readily transferable when moving to the UK.
Some additional training maybe required dependent on your career.
We love our holidays. Working full time then the likelihood is you will be eligible for at least twenty days holiday per year plus bank holidays.- Too busy working, then our supermarkets can deliver for a small charge. All of the
supermarkets deliver 7 days a week to within a 2 hour time slot selected by you.
